O Festival de Cannes 2026 acaba de revelar sua Seleção Oficial para a 79ª edição, confirmando o favoritismo de cineastas que já dominam o circuito de festivais. Com o retorno de Ryusuke Hamaguchi e Pedro Almodóvar, a disputa pela Palma de Ouro deste ano promete um embate entre o minimalismo japonês e o drama visceral espanhol. Para o público brasileiro, a notícia traz um balde de água fria: após o sucesso de ‘O Agente Secreto‘ no ano passado, o Brasil ficou de fora da competição principal em 2026, sinalizando uma mudança no radar dos curadores franceses.
A competição principal conta com o retorno do japonês Ryusuke Hamaguchi com a obra “All of a Sudden” e do espanhol Pedro Almodóvar que apresenta o longa “Natal Amargo”. Outros nomes confirmados na disputa incluem Hirokazu Kore-eda com “Sheep in the Box” e Ashgar Farhadi com “Parallel Tales”. O diretor romeno Cristian Mungiu também integra o grupo com “Fjord” produção que traz no elenco os atores Sebastian Stan e Renate Reinsve conforme reportado pelo anúncio oficial da organização do festival.
Fora da disputa pelos prêmios principais o diretor Nicolas Winding Refn retorna ao cenário com “Her Private Hell” enquanto a seção Cannes Premieres exibe “Kokurojo: The Samurai and the Prisoner” do cineasta Kiyoshi Kurosawa. O cinema dos Estados Unidos marca presença em exibições especiais com o documentário “John Lennon: The Last Interview” de Steven Soderbergh e a obra “Avedon” dirigida por Ron Howard. A mostra Um Certo Olhar será inaugurada por Jane Schoenbrun com o título “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma”.
